TAWAU: Chief Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan has urged authorities to further strengthen the law besides taking firm action against false information spread through social media.

He said the circulation of false information would create an unhealthy atmosphere and feared it would undermine national harmony and peace.

Hence, he advised the people in the state, especially the younger generation, not to easily upload any unauthorised information or to raise anything that would jeopardise racial and religious harmony in the country.

“We support and seek to hasten action against anyone who is spreading false news or news that does not have the true and right facts, I think firm and strict action should be taken by the authorities,” he said after officiating the volleyball competition at Kampung Apas Tawau today.

According to Nizam, those who often spread false news without checking are seen as an irresponsible act besides causing disassociation among people in this country.

In this regard, he hoped the authorities would investigate and take action on the act to prevent it from spreading.
