MIRI: A septuagenarian suffered losses of over RM3,000 after her house in Niah was broken into during the Chinese New Year holidays.
The 71-year-old victim returned to her house on Monday after nearly a week away to find her kitchen door had been forced open.
Upon checking, the victim found several items had been stolen.
They included two handphones, a radio, a purse containing some cash, a piggy bank containing about RM1,000 in coins, and a four-wheel drive car key.
She lodged a report at the Batu Niah police station on Tuesday.
Police are investigating the case under Section 457 of the Penal Code for lurking house-trespass or housebreaking by night in order to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment.
In a separate case, a man in his 30s was caught on a CCTV recording breaking into a house at Jalan Lopeng around 9.15am on Tuesday.
The suspect was seen climbing over the wall to steal a bicycle and some clothes.
It is understood that the homeowner was away at the time.
A police report has been lodged on the incident.
