KUCHING: The Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) are maintaining its stand of not offering an apology to two state footballers and another individual referred to as a ‘bookie’ after the trio were released on bail from the Magistrate’s Court at Petra Jaya yesterday.

FAS president Dato Posa Majais, in a press statement yesterday, said although FAS agreed with the court’s decision, the association did not prosecute the players by accusing them of fixing matches.

“I respect and agree with the Magistrate’s Court concerning the match-fixing which involved Sarawak players.

“If FAS’ action caused several parties to feel unhappy, I understand it. However, if any one demands me to apologise or resign from my post, it would be hard for me to do so because I am only carrying out my responsibility and role given to me which no one dared to shoulder,” he said.

Posa went on to defend FAS by saying that the FAS management only carried out the investigations into the matter after they received information that were authentic.

He said FAS also held the principle of “zero tolerance” on corruption and will not allow unhealthy practices such as match-fixing to exist in Sarawak football.

“I will meet the two players soon. You may not be supporting me but please understand that this action is for the sake of Sarawak football,” he added.
