KUCHING: Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) president Dato Posa Majais has high hopes for the Sarawak President Cup team to perform better in the new season.

He said the players are well prepared and eager to face the new season which kicks off today (Feb 22).

Posa also urged the players to give their best performance so that they can be retained in the Sukma XIX squad for the challenge in Perak this September.

“I am confident that this squad can go far and be one of the top teams in the President Cup competition.

“The President Cup will serve as a big test to the players as it will determine whether they will be retained or dropped from the Sukma XIX team,” he said after attending a photograph session on Tuesday.

“As such, it is very vital to all players to show their best performance in the President Cup campaign as we want only the best players to be selected for the Sukma squad,” he added.

Posa also expressed confidence in the experience of coach Wahet Uji.

Meanwhile, team manager Duke Janteng echoed Posa’s sentiment.

“We are all ready to face the challenge in the new season.

“Our target is to be in the top five and improve our last year’s achievement,” he said.

Sarawak will kick off their campaign away against Terengganu III at Stadium Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, Gong Balak today.
