Man arrested for allegedly hitting traffic cop

KOTA KINABALU: A 19-year-old man was arrested by police for allegedly hitting a traffic police personnel during a road accident involving a Perodua Myvi car and a motorcycle near Kampung Lebak Mokyoh in Kota Belud recently.

State Crime Investigation Department chief SAC Datuk Salehudin Abdul Rahman said the incident happened last Friday (Feb 16) when a traffic police corporal was trying to control an argument between the the owner of the Perodua Myvi car and the motorcyclist.

¡§While trying to control the situation, a family member of the motorcyclist allegedly punched the cop¡¦s head from the behind.

¡§The suspect has been detained and will be investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging of his duty,¡¨ said Salehudin in a statement yesterday.

The offence carries a jail term of up to two years and a fine or both if found guilty.

Salehudin therefore urged the public not to act harshly and take matters into their own hand towards public servants who are carrying out their duties.

He also urged the public not to viral the incident which was captured on video as investigation of the case had been completed.
