KOTA KINABALU: The Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) must show the people that the existing government is still the right one to maintain in the future, said Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman.

Musa said the government not only relies on JKKKs to be its eyes and ears but also the entity that connects it to the grassroots people and vice versa.

In realization of this, he added the government through the federal Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKLW) and state Rural Development Ministry (KPLB) had implemented various programs to help equip JKKKs with the right competency.

This includes relevant courses encompassing subjects on JKKK and Urban Community Committee (JKDB) administration guidance, infodesa, environment, health, community leadership integrity, safety and security as well as Bumiputera basic rights, among others.

“The government’s efforts to organize this program is clear evidence of trust and confidence in JKKK in carrying out its functions and roles as the eyes and ears of the government at the grassroots level,” said Musa, whose speech was delivered by Deputy Chief Minister and Infrastructure Development Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan here yesterday.

“Therefore, you should prove that such programs can bring effective results to your respective villages.

“This include making the people realize the importance of maintaining the existing government, which has proven to always defend the fate and interests of the people at all levels,” he emphasized at the 2018 Village Administration Certificate Program Phase 3 Sabah Zone 2nd Series closing ceremony.

The nationwide program is through the Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA) in collaboration with Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) under the Rural Transformation Plan initiative.

It aims to produce more informed and skilled JKKKs with high integrity when administrating the respective village organizations and communities.
