MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) welcomes organisations, associations and clubs in the city to submit proposals of their activities to be included for Miri May Fest’s Calendar of Events this year.

Miri mayor Adam Yii said the proposed events for the month-long event must support the council’s effort to promote Miri as a vibrant resort city.

Yii is looking forward to new events with fresh ideals in addition to existing annual and signature events. Those interested can contact the MCC Public Relations Section for more details. He added that the continuous support from the event organisers is vital for another successful festival this year.

Chairman of the MCC’s Tourism Development Committee councillor Ernest Goh shared the same view as the mayor.

“That is why we want those interested to submit their respective proposals and only events that support the council’s objective will be selected for Miri May Fest’s Calendar of Events this year.”

On another issue, Goh shared that the tourism handbook – ‘Miri Uniquely Borneo’, a project in conjunction with MCC’s tourism campaign for Visit Miri Year (VMY), will be launched soon.

MCC’s tourism booklet in collaboration with Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) will be distributed at several strategic locations such as Visitors Information Centre (VIC) Miri, Miri Airport, travel agencies and hotels throughout the city.

The 39-page booklets contain three sections  – a brief introduction and information on places of interest in the city, useful local contact numbers for travelling guidance and a contest for visitors to collect hot-spots stamp for eight places of interest visited to get mystery prizes.

“This contest is for the whole of 2018 and is open to members of the public. Visitors have to submit their entries by hand to the VIC Miri for prize redemption.”
