Foreigner charged with drug trafficking to know fate on March 29

KUCHING: The High Court here yesterday fixed March 29 to deliver a ruling on an Indian national charged with trafficking  in 933g of methamphetamine last year.

Justice Datuk Yew Jen Kie set the date after the prosecution completed its case against Kumar Amir. He is facing the death penalty under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Kumar allegedly trafficked the dangerous drug when detained at Kuching International Airport around 9.15pm on April 23 last year.

It is understood he arrived here carrying a suitcase, which was detected by a scanner to contain a suspicious substance. The Customs Department officer who inspected the suitcase found a bag wrapped among clothes.

Further examination revealed eight small packages in the bag, each package contained one packet of a crystalline substance suspected to be the drug.
