MIRI: A magistrates’ court here yesterday sentenced a labourer to five months in jail for stealing wire cables and water taps.

Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa convicted Norji Talip, 47, from Quadruplex Flat Permyjaya on his own guilty plea.

In mitigation, Norji pleaded for leniency as this was his first offence. He was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same Code together with the first accused – a 17-year-old and third accused Ali Mohd Musa, 19, both from Taman Ceria.

The two teenagers pleaded guilty to the charge. Zuraini set March 28 to hear the psychiatric report of the first and third accused. He freed them on RM2,000 bail each with two sureties while awaiting the next court date.

Based on the facts of the case, the trio stole several rolls of cables and three water taps, worth a total RM4,000 belonging to Chee Chi Vui, 43.

They committed the offence at 9.39am on Feb 28 at a lot along Jalan Ubi 1 Pujut 9B. Insp Mohd Khairi Mohd Noor prosecuted, while neither of the accused were represented.
