LONG LAMA: Malaysians must choose progress over propaganda, in upholding order and harmony in the country.

In giving this advice, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau points out that many successful individuals are able to achieve so much because they choose to look at the positive aspects of life, rather than on the negative.

In this regard, he believes that happy individuals will create happy communities that in turn, ‘will create a happy nation’.

“Malaysia is blessed with many citizens who choose progress over propaganda; who decide to contribute towards ensuring that our nation remains as the preferred place to live in.

“They choose to not be bothered by the attempts of some disgruntled people among us, who have nothing better to do but to badmouth about their own birthplace – perhaps triggered by their own selfish agenda,” he spoke at the launch of ‘Fiesta Sehati@RTM –Singah Lokasi’ in town here last weekend.

Dennis also noted that there are dozens of communities around the world in chaos, as a result of misleading and unverified information spread on social media.

“Such situation creates hatred among the people against their governments, which really benefits nobody. We do not want this to happen in our country.”

He then called upon everyone to see the positive attributes of social media, and dismiss the negative.

“If we choose to be and think positively, we should be able to see opportunities coming our way, helping us to pursue our goals in life. But if we only pick the negative things, our minds would be filled up with nothing else but worries,” he stressed.

On the programme run by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sarawak, Dennis said it was a great event for the people across Baram, in that it not only provided exciting and entertaining activities, but also connected visitors with representatives from various government departments and agencies.

“I acknowledge that it is a big challenge to hold such as huge event at a remote venue like Long Lama; thus, I’m thankful that RTM Sarawak has chosen a place in my constituency, out of many other venues across Sarawak.

“To many people including myself, no other organisation can bring the ‘rakyat’ (people) closer to the government like RTM. I’m very pleased to see the turnout of visitors at this carnival. I hope RTM Sarawak would continue to hold this event more regularly in times to come.” Dennis also lauded RTM on its integrity in delivering information and verifying the validity of its sources.

“With the influx of unverified information via social media, it is quite worrying. So please, be mindful when you read anything on social media,” he advised.

Miri Resident Sherrina Hussaini, Telang Usan District Officer Baru Tai, political secretary to chief minister Charles Balan Seling, RTM director of broadcasting centre and multi-channel network Jamel Seman and acting RTM Sarawak director Faridah Sulong were also present.
