BAU: A 52-year-old man endured seven hours of pain after breaking his leg in a fall while descending Mount Sebua, near Kampung Skiat, Jalan Jambusan here.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) state assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii said the victim, surnamed Sim, was on Stage Four of the mountain when he stepped on a loose rock and fell five metres down a 75-degree slope, with a rock then landing – and breaking – his leg.

The incident also left the victim, who was hiking with a group of 15 friends, with injuries to his face and body.

“Bomba received a distress call at 10.18am and deployed personnel from the Bau fire station to the scene, led by station chief Ebby Hirwandy Sarbini.

“The rescue operation also involved Bomba’s STORM (Special Tactical Operations and Rescue Malaysia) and MUST (Multi-Skilled Trained) personnel, as well as Civil Defence Force and villagers,” he said.

According to Tiong, rescuers arrived at the scene at 1.15pm and immediately provided early medical treatment to the victim before transporting him down the mountain.

Sim and his fellow hikers arrived at the foot of the mountain at 5.30pm, and the victim rushed to a private hospital for further treatment.
