KOTA KINABALU: There is no denying the contribution of the Chinese community to the country’s development, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan said.

“The Chinese play a very important role in this country. No one can deny that. I am the minister looking after the country’s economy, I know the contribution of the Chinese community from all walks of life.

“I would like to say this, first of all I want to declare here the Chinese are not ‘pendatang’ in this country. You have contributed to the development of the country and no one can take that away from you. No one can take that credit from the Chinese community, you are very important and no one can deny your contributions,” he stressed.

Speaking at the Chinese New Year celebration organised by MCA Kota Kinabalu and City Hall at Foh Sang Luyang on Saturday night, Abdul Rahman assured the Chinese community that they are a part of the country.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak loves the Chinese community and will help you in any way he can. He has never said that the Chinese are ‘pendatang’, he never looked down on your contributions (and) I can tell you of all that Najib has done more for the Chinese community compared to all the Prime Ministers before him combined.

“The Prime Minister is with you and appreciates you. There are some ministers who speak without thinking,” he said, adding that Najib always looked into suggestions and recommendations by MCA and Gerakan and will also not go through with any policies which are deemed not beneficial to the Chinese community and objected to by these two parties.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman is also concerned and cares about the Chinese community in the state, he said adding, “we are committed to help the Chinese community to provide and to help them in any way we can.”

The Kota Belud member of parliament also urged the rakyat not to be swayed by claims from certain quarters that they can form the government and ensure continued peace and security of the country.

Abdul Rahman pointed out that only the BN government can guarantee their peace and security which the country has enjoyed since gaining independence.

“We are not troubled by unrest caused by the change in government as experienced by our neighbouring countries,” he stressed.

“Election is coming and we will determine the government for the next five years. Some people say BN will win, I agree we will win big in Peninsular Malaysia. I tell my friends and family, BN is not worried of losing because it will not happen.

“BN is worried about winning – what I mean is we do not want to win the next election only based on the support of one race. We want everybody to be part of the government so that we can build a better future for your family and future generation. Together we can assure that the country will move forward,” he said.
