SIBU: All efforts have been made to help victims in the fire which broke out in Kampung Datu Lama in June 2013, Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health Dr Annuar Rapaee said.

He urged those still unhappy to come forward to give suggestions on how to improve the weaknesses.

He said 33 families who were the original land owners and whose houses were destroyed in the fire, had shifted to their new home in Kampung Datu Baru here.

“If there is still work that is not done, come see me and we can discuss the matter and resolve it together. Those people who make up the stories are outsiders; they do not know the truth of what is really happening.

“They do not know that there are housing lots which are shared by 12 owners, and there are also several families living in one house,” he said in his speech at a thanksgiving ceremony for the Kampung Datu Baru  house owners here Saturday night.

Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research, said the 33 families were offered houses worth between RM92,000 and RM97,000 per unit.

Meanwhile, when met by Bernama, he said another 97 families who were victims in the fire would be offered new houses in Kemuyang soon. He said infrastructure work was being carried out at the site and scheduled to be ready in two months. — Bernama
