LONG LAMA: The larger Baram area is divided into three districts.
As such, there are a lot of people travelling from one district to another, increasing the number of vehicles on the road.
Considering also that almost all villages in Baram are now accessible by road, though not as good as those in urban areas, road users must always abide by the rules and regulations of road safety to prevent accidents.
This was the advice given by Baram MP Anyi Ngau when launching the road safety and awareness seminar organised by the Road Safety Department (JKJR) which was held in conjunction with the Sehati@RTM Singah Lokasi at SJK Kee Tee, Long Lama recently.

Anyi reminded that on average some 400 people are killed in road accidents daily, thus it is crucial to drive safe at all times.
“Having a driving licence does not guarantee your safety on the road. All it takes is about eight seconds for an accident to happen,” he said.
Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, who also spoke, reminded that road safety must always be the priority to prevent accidents.
“That is why we have this seminar. It is to remind us to always be on the alert and abide by road safety rules and regulations. Good roads don’t mean there would be no accidents. So always be careful when driving.
“To motorcyclists and their pillion riders, please always wear safety helmets,” he said.
Also present were JKJR director Devina Agnes Entili, Miri Deputy Resident Nyurak Keti, RTM Miri controller Zaidi Bujang, Tabad Sakai and Temenggong Elizabeth Deng. Some 500 people attended the seminar during which ‘angpow’ was presented to school children and senior citizens.
