MIRI: The magistrates’ court here yesterday allowed a four-day remand order for three men, one of whom is an ex-convict, to assist with investigation of a housebreaking and theft case.

Assistant investigation officer Sgt Syukri Sidi had applied for a seven-day remand under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code on the three suspects aged 33, 44 and 31 from Piasau Jaya and Canada Hill to complete the investigation.

He said police also needed time to track down the stolen items. However, Registrar Nuurhafiza Yatim only allowed a four-day remand order, which would end on Monday (March 12).

According to the complainant’s report, after being away for three days, he returned to his house in Piasau on March 2 around 6.50am to find it ransacked.

Upon further checking, he discovered three teakwood chairs, two air conditioners, a gas stove, 10 lamps, five radio speakers, two clothes racks, and items of clothing missing.

Also missing were two guitars, two mirrors, a metal coffee table, a vacuum, an iron, a car ‘green’ card, keys to two vehicles, and various types of restaurant items.

Total loss was estimated at RM20,000. Acting on information received, a team of police patrolling Jalan Padang Kerbau chanced upon two men in a vehicle acting in a suspicious manner.

Police found three wooden chairs in the vehicle, which the two men said belonged to another man and had been stolen from Piasau area.

Both suspects were detained and the three chairs as well as the vehicle were seized.

The third suspect was arrested at 11.15pm in front of a house at Piasau Jaya 2A. During the arrest, police also seized a motorcycle.
