MIRI: The Miri Division Football Association (Miri FA) president has promised to reward his squad if they beat Keningau in their Liga Bolasepak Rakyat (LBR) final group match tomorrow.

Miri, second in Group D ahead of Kuching Gedong Gators, will be needing three points in the away match against Keningau to seal their second place finish and qualify for the quarterfinals.

“If they win, there’s certainly ‘something’ to give to them and it’s a form of appreciation for the players,” Miri FA president Mohamad Saif Jubaidi said here yesterday, without giving further details on the reward.

Miri FA is also hoping that the team will qualify for the FAM League.

“We have a strong line of players and management, so we want to achieve greater success and then compete in the FAM League,” he said.

Saif said Miri FA has enjoyed a number of achievements, notably the Sarawak Cup and Youth Cup.

He hoped that this momentum of success would give extra boost for the team in the knockout round of the LBR.

Meanwhile, Miri FA deputy president Nazri Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang said the association has drawn up plan for football development here. It includes local league events such as Miri Premier League, Miri Super League and Selanyau and Marudi Football Development Programme.

“We are now on the best track to develop football in Miri, not only we are producing quality players but also generating the development of professional coaches,” he said.

Nazri also revealed that Miri’s success in the ‘beautiful game’ has revived interest in local football scene among fans here.

“It is noticeable now that every time Miri team is in action, many spectators will come to give morale support and thus we hope Miri FA will step into the FAM League as I am sure the fans would like to see that as well,” he said.
