WeChat message saves foreigner from being confined, beaten

MIRI: A short WeChat message was enough to save a foreign man being held captive and beaten in a house at Kampung Tudan on Tuesday.

It is understood that the victim had sent a short message through the app to his employer, relating his predicament at the hands of three unknown men. One of the perpetrators was apparently under the impression that the foreigner had harassed his wife.

Following the message, a friend of the victim’s employer lodged a police report.

A team from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Miri District police headquarters rescued the victim around 11am and arrested three local men in their 20s. The three suspects were then taken to Miri Central Police Station to assist with the investigation.
