Sarawak placed third overall in MSSM Cross Country C’ship

KUCHING: Sarawak contingent finished a respectable third in the 17th Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) Cross Country Championship held in Ipoh, Perak yesterday.

Selangor emerged as the overall champion as Terengganu came in second.

Sarawak bagged two titles in the team category, while two of their runners made a top-three finish.

Ten-year-old Alexia Ngian Chan from SK Bukit Nibong, Bintangor completed the Girls U-12 race in third.

Bintulu lass Jessyca Sayu Sawing from Sabah Malaysia Sports School also finished third in the Girls U-18.

Meanwhile, Sarawak won the Girls U-15 and U-18 in team category, while Girls U-12 finished third, Boys U-12 in sixth, and Boys U-18 and U-15 were placed fifth respectively.

A total of 16 contingents from throughout the country took part in the one-day championship.

Sarawak runners were accompanied by contingent chief Bintulu Education officer Fred Entau, team manager Wan Ishak Wan Ahmad and MSSS Sarawak athletics technical and development chief Christopher Tinkai.

The state athletes attended a one-week centralised training at Universiti Putra Malaysia in Bintulu prior to the championship.
