KUCHING: The much-anticipated water theme park in Samariang is expected to open its doors to the public this March 31.
The Borneo Samariang Water Park covers a 30-acre site that houses many attractions such as the ‘Kids’ Slide’, a leisure pool, the ‘Aqua Play’, the man-made ‘Mount Mulu Clearwater River and the ‘Pizza Time’ – all located on the ‘Hornbill Island’ mainly for children.
For the grown-ups, there are a number of exciting activities in store for them at the Santubong Tower such as the ‘Family Raft’, ‘Six-Lane Racer’, ‘Skydrop Ride’, ‘Crystal Slide’, ‘Galaxy Slide’, ‘Canopy Slide’ and ‘Garden Terrace’.
Visitors can also visit the Salak Beach wave pool, the ‘Summer Season’ and also a mangrove island at the Salak Beach section. The water theme park is among the components of Borneo Samariang Resort City (BRSC) – a 500-acre integrated resort city designed for leisure and suburban living in the state capital.
Kuching North Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahab Abang Julai said he was impressed by the progress of the project.
“I was invited by the developer Sentoria Group Bhd to preview on what would be available here (park), before it opens to public this March 31.
“The DBKU (Kuching North City Commission) has made the inspection and we are satisfied with everything. The OP has been issued, so they (development) can go ahead with their operations,” he told reporters after the site visit to the water theme park yesterday.
He said personally, he was excited about the whole project for three things – that the city would finally have a place where families could come together for bonding and recreational activities; that the city would become a popular tourist attraction; and that the people from Miri, Sibu, Bintulu and other parts of Sarawak who had never seen a water theme park, could come here and enjoy the facilities.
“As you can see around us here, it is a very beautiful water park. I have been made to that the equipment and installations – now in the process of being commissioned – all come from Canada.”
Abdul Wahap said the BRSC would also offer a very good venue for both the public and private sectors to hold conferences and activities in the area because hotels and other related facilities would be made available there.
It is said that the park could accommodate between 2,000 and 3,000 visitors – the highest slide measures about 80m from ground to the apex – or about six-storey high.
Strategically located within close proximity to Bandar Samariang and Pasir Pandak, BRSC is easily accessible – a mere 25-minute drive from the city centre.
