KOTA BHARU: The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) will be launching a housing blueprint  for the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) with welfare of ATM personnel being its core thrust in the near future, said minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

He said, apart from housing, priority would also be given to improve education, training, health and medical services and to alleviate the cost of living.

“I believe the agenda that we have planned over the past three to four years can be exploited, felt and appreciated as it gives our people comfort when they are directed to the front.

“The families they leave behind have comfortable homes, the children can go to school conveniently, their health is also taken into account. All this is a welfare agenda that I place as a priority,” he said.

Hishammuddin was speaking to reporters after opening the Armed Forces Family Housing (RKAT) Project at Kem Desa Pahlawan here yesterday.

Construction of 384 units of Kem Desa Pahlawan RKAT which commenced on April 13, 2015 was completed on October 29, 2017,  involving a cost of RM97 million.

Under the ministry’s housing action plan, 40,627 units of RKAT are planned to be built throughout the country with 9,096 units already under construction. The balance would be implemented in phases and are expected to be completed by 2030.

Hishammuddin stressed that the federal government did not make seasonal promises and the government’s development programmes should not be exploited by any party.
