Favourites off to a good start in Sarawak Junior Amateur Open

KUCHING: Tournament favourites Zulaikah Nurziana Nasser and Mirabel Ting Ern Hui started their campaign in the inaugural Sarawak Junior Amateur Open on a high note at Damai Golf and Country Club yesterday.

Fifteen-year-old Zulaikah, who is eyeing her first major title on home soil, is leading the Girl’s A category with a 73 while 12-year-old Mirabel tops Girl’s C with a 74.

Trailing Zulaikah in second and third place are Nicole Wong Yen Ping and Noor Afrina Ibrahim.

The challenge for Mirabel on the second day is expected to come from fellow Sarawakian Rania Rafify and Selangor’s Ho Yunxi.

Angel Hii is the leader in Girl’s B with Angeline Jerembai Ong and Amber Thos Eu Mei close behind in second and third.

In the Boy’s Special category, Steven Hii leads the pack with a 73 with team mate Aziel Teo just one stroke behind and Mohd Amirul Fadhlan third.

Malcolm Ting, Elden Sim, Saxen Hii and Kulleh Tajang are the leaders on the opening day for Boy’s A, B, C and D respectively.

Sarawak junior golfers are using the three-day tournament as part of their preparation for this year’s Malaysia Games (Sukma).
