Go kart racing at Serapi Race track tomorrow

KUCHING: The 1st Series of the Repsol Go Kart Clone Racing Series will be flagged off at the Serapi Race Track at KM 8, Jalan Palma Indah, off Jalan Matang tomorrow with 10 participants.

Organised by the Serapi Go Karting Club, the competition is divided into two categories Class A (Kart and Driver minimum 150kg) and Class B (Kart and Driver minimum 130kg).

“This is the first four-stroke go kart racing series in Sarawak and it will run from March to October.

“The series work on a points collection system – race and win points.

“There will be one race every month and at the end of the series, the racer with the highest number of points will be crowned champion for 2018.

“His name will be engraved on the Repsol Cup and his picture will be displayed on the Repsol Wall of Champions,” said Serapi Go Karting Club secretary Calvin Eng.

According to him, the other series are scheduled on April 14-15, May 12-13, June 23-24, July 14-15, Aug 11-12, Sept 15-16 and Oct 13-14.

Race coordinator Calvin said Serapi Go Karting Club is focused on promoting the four-stroke go karting, and stressed that it is the most economic form of motor sports available on four wheels that can be participated by almost anybody.

“Go karting is competitive but it is also fun and family-orientated, with involvement in the sport both on and off the track, giving it a strong feeling of community.

“We strive to support the offering of fun and affordable go karting for all,” added Calvin.

The event sponsor is Ghee Hua Company Sdn Bhd, the distributor of Repsol Lubricants products in Sarawak, while the race director is Dr Abner Jerip.
