SIBU: The 4th edition of the Bernard Ting-Allan Richard Wan-Moh Ung Bing 15-a-side Rugby Memorial Cup is expected to feature a women’s category for the first time.

The tournament will be held at SMK Sacred Heart on April 28 and 29.

Sibu Division Rugby Union (SDRU) chief coach Michael Ting said if everything goes as planned, the championship would feature both the men’s and women’s categories.

“If we can get at least three ladies’ teams, then we will definitely stage the women’s category to spice up the event,” he added.

Currently, there are four ladies’ teams that are active in local competitions.

They are Politeknik Mukah A & Politeknik Mukah B, UiTM Kuching and GB13 Roses.

Politeknik Mukah B recently emerged champion in the Mukah 10s held in Mukah. UiTM were second and Politeknik Mukah A, third.

Ting said SMK Sedaya is trying to come up with a ladies’ team too.

“The 3rd edition of the tournament attracted 11 teams. Hopefully, all of them will come again for the 4th edition,” Ting said, adding that SMK Sacred Heart is very likely to form a team this time around.
