KUALA LUMPUR: The government will continue to provide opportunities for the low (B40) to middle income (M40) groups to own houses and is fully committed to building one million affordable houses, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“The government has shown its commitment by completing 139,338 affordable houses, while 311,281 are now in various stages of construction,” he told the media here after visiting the national-level Housing Exposition organised by PR1MA Corp Malaysia (PR1MA).
Najib also clarified that the balance of the construction target for affordable houses was now in the planning process, pre-approval stage and such.
The expo themed, “Housing Sales Expo- Towards the One Million Dream” will be held over nine days, starting yesterday.
Under PR1MA, 16,000 affordable houses throughout the country with a gross development value of RM4 billion have been sold.
As for the 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing (PPA1M) project, the construction target is 200,000 houses and to date, 141,774 units have been approved.
“In the near future, the 200,000 units will be ready, and this includes 10,000 specially for members of the police force,” said Najib.
Meanwhile, PR1MA chief executive officer, Datuk Abdul Mutalib Alias said until the end of this year, 300,000 units were expected to be approved.
He said 267,640 units had been approved by the board, planners and others, so PR1MA was confident of meeting the target of 300,000 units.
“The houses on offer cost less than the market price, with those in Kuala Lumpur averaging between 30- 40 per cent lower, while for the country it is 20-40 per cent,” he added.— Bernama
