MIRI: Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) has three potential candidates for the Sibuti parliamentary seat.

PAS state commissioner Jofri Jaraie said the names of the candidates, who are locals, would be reviewed when the time comes.

“The three potential candidates have many family ties in Bekenu and Sibuti. Therefore, it is much easier for our party to work with the people on the ground,” he told the press yesterday.

Jofri said the three potential candidates are professionals who have visited the parliamentary constituency, adding the party’s election machinery is already at work on the ground.

According to him, issues faced by Sibuti folk include the lack of infrastructure, particularly a hospital and fire station.

He pointed out that a fire station was promised during the last election but has yet to materialise, so fire engines from Miri take about an hour and a half to reach the Bekenu and Niah areas in Sibuti.

Jofri also claimed road conditions in Sibuti were poor and had worsened during the rainy season due to flooding.
