MIRI: State PKR chief Baru Bian says it is important that Pakatan Harapan (PH) win this general election because losing will mean a bleak future for the younger generation.

As such, he urged the people to reject Barisan Nasional (BN), and vote PH.

“Voters in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah are more inclined to PH. Sarawakians must do likewise and vote for a change in government or we will be left behind,” Baru said during a walkabout at Old Men Street, here yesterday.

State DAP secretary Alan Ling Sie Kiong, Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon, DAP Johor publicity secretary Wong Shu Qi and Miri DAP Youth chief Peter Hii were also present.

Baru added that it was important that DAP, PKR and Amanah members work together to ensure that PH would win many seats in Sarawak.

He also urged voters overseas to return home in big numbers to vote in the coming election.

He said a higher voter turn-out would be good for the opposition, apart from exercising their democratic rights.

On the selection of PH candidates, Baru said the coalition had agreed on the seat allocation in Sarawak based on the formula used in the last general election. The top PH leadership will announce the candidate for Miri and other places soon.

On the proposal by state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen that a new candidate should be fielded in Miri, Baru said this too would be taken into consideration.

On himself (Baru) being suggested to be the candidate for Miri, he said he would not want to comment on it. It’s for the top PH leadership to decide, he added.

“What is important is we want a winnable candidate for every seat because this election is crucial. We are fighting against BN.”
