MIRI: The Barisan Nasional (BN) manifesto will serve to empower women and reflects the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s sensitivity and recognition of women’s contribution to the country.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing said he was impressed with Najib for his determination to rightly elevate women to “where they are supposed to be.”

“It is imperative to recognise that there are more women voters than men voters and they play influential roles in the country. It is therefore important to give women appropriate places in the administration,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He said the move to place the empowerment and development of women at the top of BN’s agenda is timely as it seeks a fresh mandate from the people.

“PRS has put this move (empowering women) into practice by proposing to field two women candidates from the party for the 14th general election,” he said.

The deputy chief minister added Sarawak and Sabah’s special mention in the manifesto was equally important as it accorded due recognition to the rights of the two states under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
