KUCHING: Marine Police seized 207 cartons of contraband beer during a raid at a mini supermarket in Lundu on Monday.

State Marine Police commander ACP Salehuddin Mat Zaman in a statement yesterday said the operation was carried out at 11.45am following a combination of public tip-offs and intelligence gathering.

He said the raid saw the arrest of a 30-year-old man, who is the owner of the premises, and seizure of 4,968 cans of beer, of which the total unpaid tax amounted to RM13,496.

“The case will be investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for storing or possessing untaxed goods.

“The suspect also failed to show valid documents for the items,” said Salehuddin, adding the case will be referred to the Customs Department for further action.
