KOTA KINABALU: Political parties or those who wish to display flags or campaign materials in the state capital are reminded to apply for a permit under the Kota Kinabalu City Hall’s Advertisement by-law 1983.

City Hall Mayor Datuk Yeo Booh Hai in a statement yesterday said the rate is RM0.25 a day for each flag or advertisement that are to be displayed or hung throughout the state capital.

He said a deposit would also be collected and the amount would be according to the number of licences applied for.

“When the campaign period for the 14th general election starts, the candidates contesting are required to pay a security deposit to City Hall before putting up any flags, posters or campaign materials in the specified areas,” said Yeo.

According to the Kota Kinabalu City Hall by-law (Advertisement) 1983, candidates for the state constituencies would be required to fork out a deposit of RM1,000 while those contesting in parliamentary constituencies need to pay RM2,000 each.

Political parties must also abide by all the conditions laid down and ensure that campaign materials are not put up in locations that can affect the view of road users, on trees, landscaped areas and government buildings.

“City Hall will not hesitate to take action against those flouting the conditions,” Yeo warned.
