MIRI: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) may field Xiamen University Malaysia associate professor Dr Ricardo Yampi Baba in the Limbang parliamentary seat.

When contacted in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, Ricardo said he has various plans to further boost development in Limbang.

Originally from Kampung Bidang in Batu Danau, Ricardo said development should be focused on infrastructure and tourism.

“I hope the people of Limbang will give me a chance to serve them where I can implement my experience to give back to society at large,” he said.

Ricardo is also a visiting professor of entrepreneurship with the University of Technology Brunei.

He also served with Curtin University Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, and Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

Ricardo holds a Doctor of Business Administration in International Banking from the University of South Australia, a Master of Business Administration in Marketing and International Business from the University of New Haven, a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Ohio University, and a Diploma in Public Administration from Universiti Teknologi Mara.

When contacted in Kuching, Limbang incumbent Hasbi Habibollah said Barisan Nasional (BN) has yet to announce its candidates for the parliamentary election.

“We’ll wait and see who is the candidate and will decide on the next step,” he said.

The engineer by training polled 12,999 votes during the 2013 parliamentary election against state PKR chief Baru Bian – who only managed 4,698 votes, for an 8,301-vote majority.
