KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) yesterday received contributions amounting to RM331,000 for the Malaysian Press Night 2018 which is expected to be held on July 13.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya said these contributions were from 37 corporate bodies, government agencies and media organisations which bought tables for the dinner event, as well as through financial contributions.

“I am grateful for the continuous contributions from several companies in support of the local media and their awareness of the importance of the media to them.

“We also want to record our appreciation to Petronas for sponsoring the Malaysian Journalism Awards (HKM) from 1994 till now,” he said after a handing-over ceremony for the Malaysian Press Night 2018 held at the Malaysian Tourism Centre (MaTiC) yesterday.

Meanwhile, Chamil said until the closing date on Jan 16, the Petronas MPI HKM  2017 received 347 entries from media practitioners.
