Body recovered from Baram River

The body of the missing person was retrieved from Baram River yesterday afternoon.

MARUDI: The body of a 51-year-old senior citizen, who went missing here early Thursday morning, was found in Baram River near Lubok Nibong yesterday afternoon.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 6 chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said the victim identified as Jamin Seligi was discovered by the crew of a barge navigating the river at around 12.35pm.

“The SAR operation involving three teams on the second day (yesterday) started early at 6.10am. Bomba and police assets were used in the operation as were boats belonging to the villagers,” Law said.

“Rescuers rushed to the place where the victim’s body was found after being informed by the crew. It was taken by police boat to the Marudi town government jetty and handed over to police at around 12.56pm,” according to Law’s statement yesterday.

The search-and-rescue (SAR) operation ended at 12.57pm.

In the Thursday morning incident, the victim was reported missing after supposedly falling from a boat while on his way to Marudi Market to sell fish and shrimp products. His body was recovered about three kilometres from where he fell yesterday.
