SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council’s (SMC) annual Customers Engagement Day minimises estrangement between SMC and the people.

Council’s acting secretary Jong Thian Puk said it is an avenue to provide the people information on various sections of the council.

“Through annual Customer Engagement Day, the functions and roles of SMC will be introduced through the exhibitions throughout the day.

“The public can have face-to-face discussion/interaction with SMC councillors and staff,” he said when officiating at SMC’s Customer Engagement Day 2018 at the lobby of Wisma Sanyan here yesterday.

In attendance were SMC senior assistant secretary Yong Ing Chu, Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) secretary Justani Joni and Sibu divisional health officer Dr Muhammad Rais Abdullah.

Jong launched SMC’s tagline ‘Serving People, Enhancing Lives’ at the function.

The council was restructured and upgraded from Sibu Urban District Council to Sibu Municipal Council in 1981.

“Over the years, it had striven to improve service delivery to meet the expectations of customers and stakeholders,” Jong said.

Seven teams participated in SMC’s mini Innovative and Creative Group (KIK) Convention last month.

MIA team with their project ‘Smart EF’ was given three stars while Jelas team with their ‘K9 Defence’ project got two stars.

The rest of teams – Flying Colours, Arca, Eagle, Panterra and PK Lok – were accorded one star each.
