LAWAS: The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) has allocated RM1 million for online entrepreneur development in Sarawak to be channelled through the Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, said the funds from SSM was allocated under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme  for the benefit of Sarawakians venturing into online business.

“With this allocation, business owners can now look forward to raising their income through online business,” he said when officiating at the SSM Corporate Zakat (tithe) presentation ceremony at Merapok Laut community hall here on Friday.

He also commended the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) for organising several people-oriented programmes in the district through its various agencies.

He said Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Datuk Henry Sum Agong, who is Lawas incumbent, has been instrumental in being the bridge of the people in the constituency and the federal government.

“The constituents are fortunate to have such a fair and hard-working leader who goes the extra mile in serving the people, including handing out funds to mosques and suraus to hold prayers and activities during the Ramadan fasting season and to improve facilities.”

Awang Tengah added that Sum is a humble leader who actively supports community and religious programmes, irrespective of race or religion.

Meanwhile, the deputy chief minister urged Merapok folk to ensure Lawas remains a BN stronghold by continuing to deliver a big mandate to the coalition in the general election.

“Many polling stations in Lawas posted over 90 per cent support for the BN candidate in the last election, but the most outstanding was Sundar which recorded a 100 per cent record for BN,” he said.

A strong mandate would give a stronger voice to the elected representative and also to Sarawak in seeking more funds and opportunities from the federal government to bring development to the next level, he added.

KPDNKK secretary-general Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh who is also SSM chairman, KPDNKK state director Dato Stanley Tan and Lawas district officer Hussaini Hakim were among those present at the event.
