KUCHING: The state government, through the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), have pledged to provide air tickets and accommodation to Husnul Khatimah Wajidi who will be competing in the Static Monsters Worldwide Championship held in Australia starting May 20.

Husnul, 39, became the only woman from Malaysia to qualify for the championship and will be taking part in the under 72kg category for the Log Press and Deadlift categories, which offer precious ranking points in the sport.

“The state government, regardless of which ministry, will definitely sponsor athletes who will be bringing the state’s and country’s name to an international event,” said Minister of Welfare, Community, Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah who received a courtesy call from Husnul at her office this morning.

The sponsorship, she said, will enable Husnul to completely focus on her training, instead of worrying on her public sourcing funds.

Fatimah further added that athletes such as Husnul should become an inspiration to the women folk in Sarawak as she have shown true commitment and passion to achieve her dreams.

“Provided with the right support, strong commitment and believe. It can all be done,” said Fatimah, who is also Dalat assemblywoman.

Husnul is glad for the support rendered to her by the state government and SSC for giving her a chance to be one step closer towards achieving her dream.

“This support will help me to focus more in the last four weeks of my training, which mostly involves mental preparations, such as visualising my moves during the championship,” said Husnul, who is from a mixed parentage of an Australian mother and a Malaysian father.

According to her, cross fit and powerlifting have greatly improved her overall health as it can boost her mental and physical strength.
