KOTA KINABALU: The Barisan Nasional (BN) government has been fair and consistent in developing Sabah, either in the rural or urban areas.

Such development has been fairly distributed including those in the development of education.

President of the Ex-Teachers Association of Sabah, Datuk Zulkifli Hj Jaafar, said much of Sabah’s rapid development has been engineered by Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Haji Aman.

“Tan Sri Musa gave much attention to the advancement of educational facilities in the state. He has encouraged the establishment of polytechnics, local colleges and college universities including those under Yayasan Sabah. Not forgetting the development of the Sandakan Education Hub make affordable education accessible to rural kids,” he said.

Zulkifli added Musa had been instrumental in ensuring a more sustainable development for Sabah, moving away from primary based industries to more a diversified economy that is based on tourism, agriculture and manufacturing.

He  said this in a statement after he and 13 other members of the association paid a courtesy call to the Chief Minister at his official residence, Sri Gaya, yesterday.

Zulkifli said Musa had also contributed a lot to the development of basic infrastructure in Sabah as a result of the good Federal-State relations that he has fostered  especially with Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“We can see development has taken place in almost every part of Sabah.”

He said the current leadership should be supported to ensure continuous development of the State.

“On behalf of the Ex-Teachers Association, we pledge our undivided support for Tan Sri Musa’s continued leadership,” he said.

On school development, he thanked the BN government for paying attention to the needs of Sabah, especially in addressing the issue of dilapidated schools in rural areas.

Musa earlier told the former teachers that the State government appreciated their roles in the development of education in Sabah.

Although they have retired from their profession, they still can help contribute valuable experience to the people.

“The State government will always remember the contributions made by ex-teachers,” he said.
