KUCHING: A senior citizen was arrested by police over the manufacturing of air rifles during a raid on Sunday.

The 60-year-old suspect, who works as a parking lot attendant at the Sarawak General Hospital, was nabbed after police stormed his rented room at Jalan Mendu here following a public tip-off.

State CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar in a statement yesterday said 4pm raid by personnel from the Major Crimes Division led to the seizure of five homemade air rifles and 19 marbles.

“The marbles are believed to be the ammunition for the weapons. The raiding team also confiscated various tools believed to be used to manufacture the guns.

“The suspect upon being questioned admitted to having manufactured the air rifles for sale to hunters,” he said.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced in court today for a remand application, with police classifying the case under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960.
