AMUNTAI, S Kalimantan: Head of BPKP (Development Finance Comptroller) Representative of South Kalimantan Salamat Simanullang urged local government to be more cautious in the management of the development budget as the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is currently monitoring in the province, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

“I do not mean to frighten just to remind that KPK team is currently monitoring in several districts and cities in South Kalimantan,” Salamat said.

He said until April 2018, seven regional heads have been caught by the KPK for committing a criminal act of corruption, one from South Kalimantan.

He appealed that the Internal Control System (SPI) in the local government is further enhanced in order to avoid cases of misuse of development budget that could become a criminal case.

Head of BPKP requested that the inspectorate and related institutions to more socialize the SPI considering based on the research results only about 10 percent of civil servants who have heard the term SPI

“Government employees who have heard of the term internal control are usually those who have served in the Inspectorate and Regional Employment Agency, while many other employees do not know it,” he said.

Salamat who attended with a number of BPKP officials is socializing SPIP in Amuntai. He hopes the North Hulu Sungai (HSU) Government can reach a value of 3 in the SPIP assessment.

It is said, internal control is not something that is required for local governments to do, but the consequences if not applied then increase the risk of budget misuse and corruption.
