SERIAN: The National Sports Institute (ISN) has launched their second Talent Outreach Training Centre during a ceremony at the Padawan Sport Complex in Siburan on Monday.

The centre provides a dedicated coaching service to young talents from areas in the Serian, Siburan and Padawan districts.

“Additionally, it is able to optimise the talent of participants with systematic training at the early stages so that talented youngsters do not drop out.

“The programme also introduces sports science and medical aspects in the development of athletes at an early stage,” said ISN chief executive officer Dr Khairi Zawi.

Present to officiate the ceremony was Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

“We have Sarawakians representing the country such as in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia like Johnathan Nyepa and Nixson Kennedy.

“We hope to produce more athletes like them in the not so distant future,” he remarked in his address.

According to ISN officials, the centre was the first of its kind in East Malaysia. It is run by experienced trainer Abang Sapani Abang Sarbini.

So far 25 participants have signed up for the programme.

Also present during the opening ceremony was Sarawak Sports Corporation CEO Dr Ong Kong Swee.
