SANDAKAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) Government does not only focus on big-scale projects, but also cares about and never neglects on small Bumiputera contractors in Sabah, said Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman.

He said that in Sandakan, a total of 142 projects with ceiling cost of RM6.16 million were allocated for the maintenance and basic public infrastructure, and Bumiputera contractors were chosen fairly and fast, without the need to go through price quotation process which takes a long time.

Musa said this in his speech which was read by Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Raymond Tan Shu Kiah, during the Voting Ceremony of Public Infrastructure Maintainence Project (PIA) and Basic Infrastructure Project Sandakan (PIAS) held at the community hall here, yesterday.

The ceremony was jointly organised by Sabah Development Office (SDO) and Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC), with collaboration of Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Implementation Coordiation Unit (ICU) of Prime Minister Department.

“The Government always paid attention to maintenance work on public infrastructure and basic infrastructure development, particularly in rural areas, to ensure that facilities provided are at its best condition to benefit the Rakyat as users.

“PIA and PIAS programme is a clear proof on the Government’s wish to enhance the socioeconomic development by taking into account the needs and demands of the people from the grass root level are met efficiently,” he said.

Musa said that in National Budget 2018, a total of RM500 million was allocated for PIA/PIAS in the whole country, and Sabah received the highest allocation at RM90 million.

“This is because Sabah is special and was never neglected in the country’s development stream,” he said.

Meanwhile, Musa said that he hopes the appointed contractors would do their best at finishing the projects, in line with the objective of PIA and PIAS programme, which is for all projects to be completed within 4 to 8 weeks of time.

Also present at the event was incumbent Karamunting Assemblyman, Datuk Charles O Pang.
