Brothers killed in motorcycle accident

KUCHING: Two brothers from Simunjan lost their lives when the motorcycle they were on crashed into the rear of a lorry at Mile 21 along the Kuching – Serian highway this morning.

The victims were identified as Chile Brownson Jika, 21 and Beraina Jika, 26.

According to State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, both Chile  and Beraina (pillion rider) died on the spot due to multiple injuries to their heads and legs.

Based on the case fact, the lorry, which was driven by a 32-year-old man from Bintangor, was heading to Kuching from Serian town when the accident occurred.

Both the driver and his 23 year old co-driver from Pakan were not injured in the incident.

According to Alexson, the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.

The driver of the lorry is currently under police custody at the Siburan District Police Headquarters – pending a remand order.

A post-mortem will also be carried out today at the Sarawak General Hospital’s morgue.
