Nightclub GROs nabbed for drug trafficking

KUCHING: Three Chinese nationals working as guest relation officers (GROs) at a nightclub here were arrested for drug trafficking on Tuesday.

State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) chief Supt Sahar Abdul Latif said his men seized RM38,000 worth of drugs, a multi-purpose vehicle and cash amounting to RM18,136 during two raids.

“The first raid was conducted around 7.30pm at an entertainment outlet in Jalan Tun Jugah. The first suspect led police to a storage shelf located behind the main counter where employees’ belongings were kept.

“An inspection uncovered powdered fruit juice mixed with Ecstasy weighing approximately 1.065 kilogrammes, 159 Ecstasy pills, 21.6 grammes of ketamine, amd nine grammes of cannabis,” he said in a statement here yestereday.

The GRO’s arrest led to a subsequent raid of a house along Jalan Stampin Tengah where two more Chinese women – also GROs at the same nightclub – were apprehended.

“Police found two packets of ketamine weighing about 80 grammes and 0.92 grammes, as well as 21.3 grammes of powdered fruit juice mixed with Ecstasy,” added Sahar.

All three women have been placed in the police lockup for further investigation, with police classifying the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
