Jobless man faces lengthy jail term, fine for theft, house-breaking

MIRI: A jobless man was ordered by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to be freed on RM12,500 bail with three local sureties after he pleaded not guilty to attempting to steal a motorbike and breaking into a house to commit theft.

Thien Teck Sheng, 19, from Tudan Phase 6 was charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code read together with Section 511 of the same Code.

Section 379A carries a jail term between one to seven years and a fine if found guilty, while Section 511 carries half of the punishment allocated under Section 379A.

Based on the facts of the case, the accused allegedly tried to steal a motorbike belonging to Kelldie Afindi, 25 at 2.30am on April 14, in front of a shop at Jalan Marina here. After hearing his not guilty plea, Senior Assistant Registrar Md Syafique Md Hilmie set May 23 for case management.

Insp Mohd Khairi Mohd Noor prosecuted. Thien is also charged with breaking into a house and committing theft. He faces up to 14 years, or fine or both, if found guilty.

Based on facts of the case, Thien was accused of breaking into the house of a German national, Christop Egon Winter and stealing several items including cash, foreign currencies, a passport, two debit cards, a credit card, a German issued Adac Plus card, two gold bars, various personal documents and keys. The losses was estimated at RM600,000.

He allegedly committed the offence at 1.15 am on April 1, at a house at Jalan Jati 6, Desa Senadin here. Md Syafique set May 23 for case management and released Thien on RM8,000 bail with two local sureties.
