ALOR SETAR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday said the good and excellent management of the country’s economy under the Barisan Nasional (BN) government has enabled the people to benefit from it directly.

He also attributed it to the cooperation among BN leaders in managing and administering the country.

He said this was proven last Thursday when the stock market index, FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI), reached an all time high in the country’s economic history.

“Who said the people do not gain, not everyone trade stocks, but we are Amanah Saham Nasional (ASN) investors, all of us have the ASN savings book, there’s also savings for children, the Amanah Saham Didik.

“If the shares go up, Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) makes profit, PNB gives back to the people in the form of dividends and bonus.

“There are also those who save as investors or depositors in the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), if the shares go up, EPF can declare dividends, like it did when announcing the highest dividend recently,” he added.

Najib said this in his speech at the leader with the people session, held in conjunction with the ground-breaking ceremony for the 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing Project (PPA1M) in Kampung Padang Tembak near here.

Also present was Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.

The prime minister said the people would lose if the country was administered by the opposition, which was facing an ideological clash.

“The problems facing the opposition is not a trivial matter, clash of ideology will lead to a confrontation and very serious policy clash that will be detrimental to the people.

Najib also reminded the people to choose a party that they could depend on to bring the country to greater heights and to ensure they would not be left out of development.

“As citizens and voters, we want the condition today to be better than yesterday, and tomorrow and days ahead better than today,” he said.

Najib also called on the Kedah BN machinery and leaders to work hard to win back the Pokok Sena parliamentary seat, as well as the Bukit Pinang and Derga state seats in the coming general election.

The PPA1M project, to be carried out in three phases, would involve the construction of 859 units of terrace houses and apartments. — Bernama
