SIBU: Sarawak State Reform Party (STAR) chose to go modest and will field only three candidates in the coming 14th General Election (GE14).

Its secretary-general Simon Tiong Ing Tung will stand in Sibu, vice-president Sai Malaka will be fielded in Kapit and Chieng Lea Phing in Bintulu.

STAR president Lina Soo said the time will come for them to contest in a bigger way as she predicted that the 12th State Election might come early.

“We urge the people of Sarawak and Sabah to give your votes to STAR because your votes will provide an independent voice in the federal government free from BN and PH influence,” she said at the press conference to announce the names of the candidates this morning.

It will be the second try for the 50-year old self-employed Tiong.

He took part in the last state election for the Nangka seat but lost to BN-PBB Dr Annuar Rapaee.

For the 53-year old Sai, this would be his debut election.

Sai hailed from Katibas and has been staying in Johore before he returned in 2016 and joined STAR.
