KUCHING: Sarawakian Indians should do their part in choosing the right leader for the country even though they are minorities in the state.

According to Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan, choosing the right leader is vital for the community as the country needs a government who can serve all communities.

He said under Barisan Nasional (BN), Sarawak often receives a big budget from the federal government for the state’s development.

“The BN government has never failed the people so far. I hope Sarawakian Indians will also agree with me as we need a government that cares for all Malaysians,” he said when officiating an event hosted by Kuching Indian Youth Association (Kiya) on Sunday.

Snowdan also reminded Sarawakian Indians to remember the words of the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem who told non-indigenous Sarawakians to never feel like ‘pendatang’ (immigrants) as they are also Malaysian citizens with equal rights.

“Sarawak is a multi-racial and multi-religious state and unity is something that we have practised for not less than 50 years. Do not let the unity be destroyed by people with self interest,” he said.

Also present during the event were Kiya president Dr Striprabu Strimari and Kuching Indian community leader T Komarusamy.
