KUCHING: A man accused of stealing a handbag from a woman at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) was arrested yesterday.

Sources said the suspect, who is in his 30s, is believed to have stolen the woman’s handbag while she was sleeping along the corridor near the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The woman from Simunjan had accompanied her son here after he was referred to SGH from Serian Hospital for further treatment.

After realising her handbag was missing around 1am, the woman immediately sought help from security personnel who searched the hospital grounds before coming across a man carrying a woman’s handbag.

Together with the woman, they approached the man and detained him after confirming that the handbag belonged to her.

The suspect, from Kampung Panglima Seman here, was subsequently handed over to the police for further action.

It is learnt that the suspect had an accomplice who is still at-large, and that the incident was not the first to occur at SGH where four similar cases allegedly happened last month.
