Security personnel remanded four days for allegedly insulting Islam

The suspect has been remanded until April 29.

KUCHING: Police have arrested the account holder of ‘Girik Joket’ for allegedly insulting Islam and posting racial remarks on his Facebook account.

State CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the 50-year-old man was arrested at 6.45pm yesterday, after he was called to present himself at Kota Sentosa police station for investigation purpose.

“The suspect, who work as a security personnel has also lodged a police report on April 23 at 9.15 pm where he claimed to have uploaded a post while being under the influence of alcohol when doing so,” Dev Kumar said in a statement issued today.

Dev Kumar also pointed out that police have obtained a four days remand granted by the Kuching Magistrate’s Court today to facilitate investigation under Section 293 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act

“Netizens are advised not to post or comment on social media intended to stir racial hatred or insult any religion that can cause an disharmony.

“And strict action will also be taken against those found guilty to this matter,” Dev Kumar said.
