KUCHING: Open Masters defending champion Adrian Ang Hsien Loong will not be thinking too much about how he will fare in the 2nd Sarawak International Open Tenpin Bowling Championship at Megalanes Sarawak, E-Mart Batu Kawa this week.

The 29-year old national bowler from Penang will instead be going out to enjoy his game and just try to do his best in the four-day tournament organised by the Amateur Tenpin Bowling Association of Sarawak (ABAS). He is adopting the same approach which led him to the title here last year.

“I am very happy to be back here and I am expecting that it will be more competitive this year when compared to last year especially with professional bowlers from other countries in the fray and the standard is getting higher,” he said.

In the first block of six games in the Open Masters qualifying yesterday, Adrian, who was playing in Squad A, placed in seventh position with 1,304 pinfalls.

The leader was former national youth bowler from Sarawak, Johnathan Chan who felled 1,429 pins.

He was followed by another national kegler Sin Li Jane (1,409), Tun Ameerul Luqman Al Hakim (1,354), last year’s runner-up Rafiq Ismail (1,365), Sarawak’s Ervin Lim Wai Mun (1,299) and Timmy Tan Chye Chern (1,318).

Erwin Lim led the Classified Masters Qualifying with 1,299 pinfalls ahead of Ryan Loo of Singapore (1,268), Roni Tugiman (1,213), Hairul Azhar Osman (1,211) and Gordon Tsen Fan Yew (1,197).

Leading the U25 Masters Qualifying was Ariff Ahmad Faisal Ahmad from Penang who posted a total score of 1,294 pinfalls, finishing 25 pins ahead of Ryan Loo while Sarawak’s Chong Jun Foo was third on 1,259 pinfalls.

Qualifying for Squad B, C and D were ongoing and all bowlers will play their second block of six games in the qualifying for various categories today.
