MyPPP supreme council sacks Kayveas as president

KUALA LUMPUR: MyPPP secretary-general Datuk Mohan Kandasamy has confirmed that Tan Sri M Kayveas is no longer party president and member following his sacking by the party’s supreme council yesterday.

Contacted by Bernama here yesterday, he said the decision to sack Kayveas as MyPPP president and member with immediate effect, was fuelled by the latter working against the interests of the party and Barisan Nasional (BN).

Earlier, Kayveas announced that he had resigned as MyPPP president after holding the post for more than two decades, effective Monday, in a posting on his Facebook and Twitter.

“This unanimous decision to sack Kayveas was made by the party’s supreme council this morning after the party’s disciplinary committee findings (that Kayveas acted against the party’s constitution) Tuesday night.

“Kayveas was not allowed to make any statement or attend any meeting with party members,” he said.

For now, Mohan said the party leadership would be helmed by senior vice-president Datuk Seri Maglin Dennis D’Cruz as acting president.

The MyPPP party election is scheduled for June.

Mohan explained that the disciplinary action against Kayveas was mooted following a letter from BN secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor instructing that a disciplinary hearing be held on Kayveas for making unilateral decisions on seat allocations.

Asked if MyPPP had received any resignation letter from Kayveas, Mohan said: “Nothing has been received officially. But I was told he (Kayveas) had posted his resignation from several posts on his social media Facebook and Twitter.”

He said Kayveas had acted against the party’s constitution, in unilaterally making decisions in respect of seat allocation in the 14th General Election, and acting on his own accord without consulting the party’s supreme council.

“The disciplinary committee found this to be a serious breach as it has far-reaching consequences and may damage relations with other BN component parties. The letter by Tengku Adnan yesterday could imply that MyPPP may be asked to quit the coalition.

“So, it was the duty of the disciplinary committee to sit last night, discuss the contents of letter and decide if Kayveas has breached the constitution. We decided unanimously that he (Kayveas) acted on his own accord without consulting on serious matters in deciding seats for the MyPPP,” he added.

Mohan said Kayveas also breached the party’s constitution when he wrote a letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak – again without consulting the party’s supreme council – to give up all five seats which were allocated to the party at GE13, in exchange for the Cameron Highlands seat.

Explaining further, he said the prime minister had clearly stated that the Cameron Highlands seat was not allocated to Kayveas or MyPPP, as it belonged to the MIC when the MyPPP Supreme Council members met Najib to discuss on the seat.

“When we asked (Najib) why he had given permission to Kayveas to work (in Cameron Highlands), the prime minister replied that he had never tasked him (Kayveas) to work there. His (Najib’s) answer was direct.

“So earlier, we were made to understand that he (Kayveas) had the endorsement (from the prime minister) but in actual fact, it (Cameron Highlands seat) belongs to MIC,” explained Mohan. — Bernama
